Top 3 Modern Farmhouse Window Treatments

With the rise in popularity of Modern Farmhouse style décor, more and more clients are looking for window treatments to complement the natural elements, minimal fussiness and clean lines of this style. Here are my top three favorite Modern Farmhouse window treatments:

1. Drapery Panels

A simple pair of white cotton or linen drapery panels on a black or wrought iron curtain rod embodies the clean lined unfussy look of Modern Farmhouse style. Choose organic and natural materials in the Modern Farmhouse palette; solid whites, beiges, taupes or grays. But, if you’re looking to add more visual interest, try fabrics with subdued patterns like subtle stripes, modern geometrics or tone on tone florals. Timeless and versatile, drapes help to soften a room, add texture and vertical interest, drawing the eye up.

2. Woven Woods & Bamboo Blinds

Modern Farmhouse style is all about light and airy materials, but it's not always easy to create that look with window coverings. Not everyone wants sheer curtains or lace-trimmed sheers, and sometimes you want to block out more than just the sunlight. Enter woven woods and bamboo blinds! Made from sustainable, eco-friendly bamboo (and often available in a variety of sustainable woods), bamboo blinds are a natural alternative to traditional wooden shades. They’re a wonderful counterpoint to the neutral tones of the Modern Farmhouse palette adding warmth and texture to any space. For a more sophisticated look layer them under a simple pair of drapery panels.

3. Fabric Roman shades

Roman shades combine the softness of drapery with the more minimal style of a woven wood blind. They've become very popular for their ability to offer both privacy and light filtering (depending on the type of lining you choose). Relaxed bottom styles are more casual while tailored straight styles create a more formal tone. As with drapes, choose fabrics in more natural materials (cottons or linens) and within the Modern Farmhouse neutral color palette (whites, creams, taupes, beiges or grays).

Well, there you have it! The three most popular window treatments for modern farmhouse style. Hopefully you’ve got some ideas for your own home. If you’re still not sure where to start, get in touch and I can help you with a custom window treatment design.

Remember: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles until you find something perfect for your home!
